Not every lead is worth your team's time. But most businesses at $50K to $150K a month treat every lead the same. They chase all of them. They spend the same amount of energy on a tire kicker as they do on a ready-to-buy prospect. And then they wonder why their close rate is low and their team is burned out.
Lead qualification is the process of filtering leads before they reach your sales team, so your closers are only spending time with people who are actually ready, willing, and able to buy.
Here's how to build a qualification system.
First, define what a qualified lead looks like for your business. Not demographics. Conditions. What revenue level do they need to be at? What problem do they need to have? What budget do they need to have? What timeline do they need to be on? Write it down.
Second, build a filter at the top of your funnel. This could be an application form with qualifying questions, a lead magnet that only attracts the right people, or messaging in your ads that calls out the specific person you're looking for. The goal is to make unqualified leads self-select out before they ever reach a human.
Third, train your setters to qualify on the first contact. Not with a script that reads like an interrogation. With questions that reveal whether this person is a fit. If they're not, your setter disqualifies them politely and moves on. No call booked. No closer's time wasted.
Fourth, track it.
How many leads come in, how many get qualified, how many get disqualified, and why. The why matters because if you're disqualifying 80% of leads, your lead source or messaging might be the problem, not the leads.
When you have a qualification system, your close rate goes up automatically. Not because you got better at closing. Because you stopped putting unqualified leads in front of your closers. The same closer with the same skills will close more deals when every call they take is with someone who's actually qualified.
At Ariyel, we build the qualification system into the CRM and train your team on how to run it. Because your closers' time is the most expensive resource in your business, and wasting it on unqualified leads is burning money.
